Michael G. Keene, PA-C

Born and raised in the Seattle area, Michael G. Keene graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. There, he also earned the NAIA District One Scholar-Athlete Award and was nominated for Academic All-America in soccer. He came to North Carolina in 1989 to attend the Duke School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program, completing his Master of Health Science, graduating with honors and receiving several academic scholarships.

Michael began practicing in family medicine where he remained for seven years before concentrating in dermatology in 1998. This same year he completed a PA Teaching Fellowship at Duke, serving on faculty within the Department of Community and Family Medicine. He continues to enjoy academia, and has served as clinical instructor to medical and PA students from all four North Carolina schools of medicine. Micahel has published academic research, and past lecturing responsibilities at Duke where he maintains an adjunct faculty appointment. He also speaks regularly for the NC Academy of Physician Assistants. Clinically, he currently enjoys instructing primarily Duke and East Carolina University PA students. Areas of particular interest within the discipline of dermatology include dermatologic surgery and pediatric dermatology.

Mr. Keene is a member of the North Carolina Dermatology Association, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Additionally, he has served as chairman of the PA Alumni Steering Committee at Duke.

His wife, Georgina F. Keene, PA-C, works in maternal-fetal medicine at Duke. They have one college-age daughter interested in medicine, as well.
